As I prepare to head out to one of my favorite clients next week, I find myself getting predictably more and more stressed out. Making Work Flow is not just about getting the “What” running more smoothly, it’s also about the “How”. And a big piece of the “How” is mental attitude. The closer I get to having to leave, the more frantic my mind becomes. How am I going to get everything that needs to be done, done, in the ever-shrinking amount of time I have left? What if I miss something? How can I be more productive?
My New Years resolution this year is to be more balanced and get fitter. According to Forbes, 55% of Americans say physical and mental health are of equal importance when it comes to New Years resolutions. Honestly, these have been goals of mine for probably years, but I just never quite had the time for them! This year I am trying two things out:
- I am reading Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman. My hope for reading this book is to retrain my brain to think differently and not get so stressed about everything that has to get done.
- I have signed up for a health and fitness group designed for women over 40. I am only one week into the new regime, but it turns out that having somebody tell me when to work out, what to do and how to eat better is way easier than just “winging it”!
The average resolution lasts just 3.74 months so it’s early days yet… but I do feel differently about it this year. Having a plan is good, and tracking food and exercise every day in a couple of Apps is both good guidance and motivational. I will keep you posted on how this translates to being on the road and if I can stick to it!
What changes are you trying to make? What are you trying out? How is it working for you?
